The Vietnamese government quoted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as stating that his company wishes to establish a base in Vietnam to develop the country’s semiconductor industry.
The U.S. chipmaker, which has already invested US$250 million in Vietnam, considers the Vietnamese market an important one, the government added.
In his first visit to the Southeast Asian country, Huang said the company considers Vietnam its home and affirmed its plans to set up a center there.
The Vietnamese government’s statement reported that after meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Huang said, ” The base will be for attracting talent from around the world to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem and digitalization.”
Home to major chip assembling factories, including Intel’s largest international plant, Vietnam aims to expand into chip-designing and chip-making.
