Nuno expected to leave with crisis talks being held

Nuno Espirito Santo is in line to be sacked by West Ham United after crisis talks on Monday following their relegation to the Championship, according to reports.

The Times reported that he was called into a meeting with West Ham’s co-chairman, David Sullivan, and other members of the club’s board. Sky Sports News have since confirmed that meeting began in the morning and has continued into the afternoon. It is expected that the meeting could end in his departure from the club.

Espirito Santo came in as Graham Potter’s replacement September on a three-year deal, just 18 days after being dismissed as Nottingham Forest boss.

He has won 12 of his 37 games in charge, losing 16.

“Talks have been going on with the West Ham board and Nuno Espirito Santo. Those talks started in the morning and are continuing into the afternoon and they are all arouind whether he will stay as head coach for next season,” Sky Sports News’ Chris Reidy confirmed.

“Nuno Espirito Santo, now that they are relegated, is free to leave his contract and West Ham are able to terminate his deal with no compensation if that’s the decision they’e come to.”

After relegation was confirmed, Sky Sports’ Gary Neville implored West Ham to keep Espirito Santo in charge, naming he and Jarrod Bowen as the two most important figures at the club.

“The manager and Bowen are the two most important figures. I think they need to lock that in quite quickly,” he said on The Gary Neville Podcast.

“I’ll be amazed if West Ham’s ownership haven’t put a huge incentive forward to Nuno to stay.

“If they were smart, they would announce that in the next 48 hours. By the end of the week, you want to try and lock Jarrod Bowen in with a big contract to stay, which will be difficult because they are going to lose a lot of revenue this year.”
