Nigerian Troops Neutralise ISWAP Cameraman, Recover Terror Footage in Borno Operation

MAIDUGURI, July 12, 2026 — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded another major success against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) after killing a cameraman attached to the terrorist group during a military operation in Borno State.

The operation, carried out by troops of the 19 Brigade under Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force North East, also resulted in the recovery of multimedia materials believed to contain valuable information on the activities of the insurgent group, including evidence of the involvement of foreign collaborators.

According to the Nigerian Army, the terrorists suffered significant casualties after attempting to infiltrate military positions in the Cross Kauwa area.

Military authorities disclosed that preliminary forensic analysis of the recovered materials pointed to the presence of foreign facilitators who have been supporting the operations of the terrorist group.

“The presence and active involvement of these foreign nationals further reinforces intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to benefit from external support, specialist expertise and transnational terrorist linkages.”

In addition to the multimedia equipment, troops recovered several rounds of PKT ammunition, 7.62mm special ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat equipment abandoned during the confrontation.

The Army said further exploitation of the battlefield, supported by satellite imagery and human intelligence, confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy losses while retreating from the area.

“This has since been corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, which confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, with many others sustaining gunshot wounds during the engagement.”

Military officials explained that the recovered video materials are expected to provide valuable intelligence that could assist ongoing counterterrorism operations and expose the operational methods and support networks of the insurgents.

The latest operation forms part of sustained military efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds across the North-East and disrupt the activities of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters operating within the Lake Chad region.

Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and called on residents to continue providing credible information that would support ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
