Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda through stronger international partnerships. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs commended the United Kingdom for renewing its support for programmes designed to promote women’s participation in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and post-conflict recovery.
The renewed collaboration is expected to strengthen ongoing initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable communities while increasing women’s representation in peace and security decision-making processes. The partnership also aligns with Nigeria’s National Action Plan on the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

Supporters argue that decentralised policing could improve responses to insecurity, kidnapping and violent crime by allowing state governments to manage local security challenges more effectively. The proposal, however, still requires ratification by at least two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 state Houses of Assembly before it can become law.
