Mourinho reveals ‘fantastic Chelsea player’ he wanted to sign

Chelsea’s transfer window ended up being yet another chaotic affair that saw mass change to the playing squad at the club.

The Blues brought in the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho this summer, giving Enzo Maresca plenty of options when it comes to configuring an attack this season.

Of all the signings the club made, there was one position that they didn’t strengthen which many felt that they should add to at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues did not bring in a new striker despite plenty of reports they were interested in upgrading that area.

The main target, particularly in the final days of the window, was Victor Osimhen, with them having their best chance to bring him in crop up this summer.

Mourinho would have signed Victor Osimhen

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has stated that if he was given the finances required, he would sign the Nigerian international.

He said to Alfredo Pedulla: “Osimhen is a fantastic player. If I were in a club that can spend 70-75 million euros, I would buy him. I have no problem with Victor, I have a good relationship with him, even if he gets down a lot.”

The Blues deemed the deal not possible to be done on their terms, with them walking away in the final hours of the window.

Chelsea could try sign Osimhen again in January

It has already been reported that Chelsea could return to the potential signing of Osimhen in January, when the break clause in his loan deal at Galatasaray comes into effect.

For now, the Blues are putting their backing into Nicolas Jackson, with him off to a great start to this season in the Premier League.

Chelsea already think Jackson is worth way more than what they signed him for two summers ago, and he will have at least a few months to prove himself to the decision makers at the club that he is the man to lead the project up top.
