Mo Salah calls for end to ‘heartbreak’ and ‘brutality’

Liverpool forward Mo Salah has urged world leaders to help end the “slaughter” of innocent civilians and called for the “immediate” transfer of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

In a video posted to Instagram, the Egyptian footballer said escalations in recent weeks have been “unbearable” to watch.

“There has been too much violence and too much heartbreak and brutality,” he said, saying “families are being torn apart” by the violence.

Salah said it’s “clear” that humanitarian aid must be allowed into Gaza “immediately”.

“The people there are in terrible conditions. The scenes at the hospital last night were horrifying. The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently,” he said, in the video taken against a black background.

“I am calling on the world leaders to come together to prevent the further slaughter of innocent souls. Humanity must prevail.”

Number of confirmed hostages rises

The Israeli military has confirmed at least 203 people are being held hostage in Gaza.

This is four more people than the last official figure released by Israel.

Hamas previously said it was holding 250 people hostages.
