Around 24 hours ago, Grant Shapps was appointed the new defence secretary and he is getting down to business fast.
One of his ministers, Johnny Mercer, who looks after veterans, has tweeted that he has a “great” call with Mr Shapps this morning, and praised his “commitment” to ensuring Britain is “the best country in the world to be a veteran”.
He also paid tribute to Ben Wallace, who departed the Ministry of Defence yesterday, who he said should be “proud of his record”.
