McDonald’s shares dive after E. coli outbreak – wiping $22bn off its value

There’s been a lot of McDonald’s in the news over the past week.

First with Donald Trump flipping burgers on Sunday and yesterday the report that someone died and 10 others were taken to hospital after an outbreak of E.coli linked to Quarter Pounder burgers in the US.

Shares in the global fast food chain fell sharply in after-hours trading last night, dropping more than 9% at one point.

There was a post-drop correction to a drop of 6.9%, meaning $21.72bn was wiped off the company’s value.

It’s worth saying the price is still historically high for the company, however.

US markets open at 2.30pm UK time, it will be interesting to see what the bigger financial hit could be.
