Javier Mascherano played 319 games for Barcelona before finding the net but needed just 9 games to do so for his Chinese Super League (CSL) club.
Mascherano got lucky when the opposing team’s goalkeeper wrongfully cleared a penalty thus providing him with a chance at goal.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder scored in the 78th minute of his team’s China Cup fixture against Shandong Luneng.
Mascherano’s lucky day reminds us of the only goal he scored for Barcelona – a penalty spot kick against Osasuna. The match ended 7-1 in favor of La Blaugranas and was a 319th game for the Argentina international footballer.
However, Mascherano’s first goal for Hebei China Fortune wasn’t enough to qualify them for the competition’s quarterfinal stage as two goals from Papis Cisse gave Shandong Luneng a 3-2 victory and a ticket to the next round.
Mascherano signed for Hebei China Fortune in January 2018.
