Marco Verratti’s Agent angry with PSG for stalling move to Barcelona

Marco Verratti’s agent lashed out at his client’s club PSG for stalling talks with Barcelona in what would have been a mega deal for the Italian professional footballer.

Donato Di Campli spoke with  Corriere dello Sport about his communication with the French Ligue one club, revealing that he questioned the club owners on whether they’d be signing new players this summer.

Regrettably, the football agent claimed he was snubbed.

Di Campli added that PSG owners threatened that he ‘will not be forgiven’ for carrying out transfer negotiations with Barcelona in Verratti’s name.

“Paris Saint-Germain want to build a competitive team that wins not only in Europe but Ligue 1 and the French Cup,” Di Campli said during the interview.

“There has been a lot of talk about [Kylian] Mbappe and an offer of €150 million, but no Champions League-caliber player has arrived so far.

“To refuse to sell Verratti for €100m has become a matter of pride…do you know what [Nasser] Al-Khelaifi told me?

“He said that there is a contract to 2021 and that we can’t ever sell [Verratti] because he is considered to be a champion and a player the team is to be built around.

Paris Saint-Germain's Italian midfielder Marco Verratti, whose contract runs until 2021, has been linked to Barcelona throughout the summer

“He said if he sells him he’d be risking his job and that in Doha they’d never forgive him: he is a prisoner of Paris Saint-Germain’s Emir.

“Verratti knows perfectly well his contractual obligations to PSG, but it’s normal that he is flattered by Barcelona’s interest.”

Barcelona FC president Josep Bartomeu made a public statement on the Italian player’s rumored transfer, saying they want to have him in the team.

However, Barca are yet to hold direct talks with PSG despite the fact that Verratti has shown interest in playing for La Blaugranas.

Josep added that they [Barca] are yet to confirm if Verratti had a release clause which would have made things easier.

“We would be able to go for him [at all costs, if paying for the release clause if what they want],” the president revealed, adding that right now, up until the deadline, he will never be sure there’s a chance they’d sit down for negotiations with PSG owners.

“We want Marco Verratti and he wants to come here,” Josep said.

“Verratti is a player that interests us for a transfer, the coaches believe he is good enough to play in the Barca midfield.

The Barca president continued: “We know the player is bowled over by the prospect of coming to Barca. But when you ring PSG and you talk to their president, he says to us that he is not for sale and that there they don’t have release clauses.”
