Marcelo extends Contract with Real Madrid

Real Madrid has confirmed it extended contract with veteran left-back Marcelo until June 2022.

The Brazil international footballer had his previous contract expiry date as 2020.

Los Blancos confirmed the player’s official contract signing ritual will go live on Thursday.

Marcelo was only 18 years old when he arrived the Santiago Bernabeu in 2007 and he has matured into one of the most respectable players. With 415 matches and counting, the left-footed star is now Madrid’s vice-captain.

His current deal offers him a chance to break the record set by his compatriot and predecessor Roberto Carlos, who made as many as 527 appearances for Madrid.

The 29-year-old has won 17 titles with Real Madrid, including 4 La Liga trophies and 3 Champions League crowns.

In the build-up to their match against Real Sociedad, Zinedine Zidane’s team were seventh on the league table after three matches.

The Champions League title defenders opened up their 2017-18 campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over APOEL in Group H on Wednesday night at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.
