Man pleads not guilty to execution-style murder of his three sons

An Ohio man accused of shooting and killing his three young sons ‘execution’ style has pleaded not guilty to their murders.

Chad Doerman, 32, was indicted on Thursday for the June 15 murder of his three sons, Clayton Doerman, 7, Hunter Doerman, 4, and Chase Doerman, 3, at their home in Monroe Township.

‘This was the man that every day they woke up looking to for protection, love and guidance in all things,’ Clermont County Prosecutor David Gast said. ‘He was their world; he was their guardian and he executed them in cold blood.’

Sheriff’s deputies in Clermont County responded to Doerman’s home in the small township about 26 miles southeast of Cincinnati around 4.30pm on Thursday, June 15 after receiving multiple 911 calls.

The first came from the children’s terrified mother, who screamed that ‘her babies had been shot.’

The first call was placed after Doerman’s teenage stepdaughter ran out to the street desperately searching for help.

‘She said her stepfather is killing everybody in her house’ the caller said. ‘I asked her to get in the car with me but she said she couldn’t leave her family.’

A third 911 caller told dispatchers he saw two children shot outside of the house.

According to prosecutors, Doerman planned out the killings and lined the three boys up before shooting them with a rifle.

He allegedly killed his 4-year-old son Hunter first by shooting him twice in the head.

Doerman then ‘gunned down’ 7-year-old Clayton, who tried to flee by running into the yard.

He shot his last son, 3-year-old Chase, after wrenching him from his mother’s arms. He also shot the boys’ mother in the hand as she tried to shield the children from harm, prosecutors said.

Body camera footage from the sheriff’s deputies captured the moment Doerman was taken into custody that afternoon. The video shows him sitting calmly on a stoop. He did not resist arrest.

Investigators say Doerman confessed to planning the killings after he was taken into custody.

First responders tried to perform CPR on the children, but all three were declared dead at the scene.

‘They held these children knowing there was nothing they could do,’ Gast said. ‘How do you unsee that sort of abomination?’

Doerman faces charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and assault for the June 15 killings. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
