Malaysia’s business sentiment turns negative in Q2 amid economic uncertainties

Malaysia’s business sentiment weakened in the second quarter of 2026, with the confidence indicator slipping to -1.8 percent from +4 percent in the previous quarter, according to an official survey released on Tuesday.

The construction, wholesale and retail trade, and industry sectors expected weaker business conditions in the quarter, reflecting continued caution among businesses amid a challenging operating environment and uncertainties in the global economy, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

In contrast, the services sector maintained a positive outlook, supported by ongoing government measures aimed at sustaining consumers’ purchasing power and facilitating business activities, particularly in domestically driven segments of the sector.
