London passes 35C as Wales again sets May heat record

The temperatures continue to creep upwards, with Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 35.1C, increasing the record for the hottest May day for England, according to the Met Office.

Today became the earliest in the year the UK recorded 35C, when Heathrow and Kew Gardens recorded 35C this afternoon.

The previous benchmark was 26 June 1976.

Wales also recorded its hottest May day for the second day in a row, with Cardiff Bute Park reaching 32.9C.
