Lab Research Technician

Posting Summary

This role will provide specialized technical assistance in direct support of scientific research projects designed to understand microvascular function in the brain, retina, and meningeal tissues.

Prepare solutions, biochemical and molecular assays; manage large transgenic and conventional animal colonies; perform small animal surgeries; assist in the planning, designing, development, and troubleshooting of protocols, research techniques, and experiments; collect and analyze research data; perform literature searches; operate and maintain laboratory chemical, animal, and equipment inventories and purchase as needed; develop standard laboratory operating procedures; maintain research results, protocols, methods, compliance with chemical safety regulations, and other documentation; and maintain day-to-day functions of running the lab as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in biology, pharmacology, physiology, neuroscience or a closely related field and experience working or volunteering in a laboratory environment required. Familiarity with data acquisition, entry, analysis, and visualization software is essential. Effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Ability and willingness to adapt to changing situations of multiple concurrent projects and to adjust priorities accordingly. Ability to work independently, in a timely fashion, with precision and accuracy.

Trained in rodent handling, drug administration, and tissue dissection techniques, including intraperitoneal injections, brain and retina extractions, thin skull and chronic glass implant cranial window procedures, transcardial perfusions, and ketamine/isofluorane administration.

Trained in the use of bioluminescence imaging, light microscopy and electrophysiology techniques, including confocal microscopy and in vivo or single-cell electrophysiology. Data analysis workflows using Matlab and ImageJ.

Familiarity with UVM VOS System

$23.00-$25.00
