Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, describing the decision as one that failed to reflect Nigeria’s religious diversity.

Speaking during a political engagement, Kwankwaso said the country’s ethnic and religious composition requires leaders to promote inclusion and national unity through their choices. He argued that the adoption of a same-faith ticket in the 2023 presidential election sent the wrong message to many Nigerians.

According to him, political leadership should encourage fairness and equal representation rather than deepen concerns about marginalisation. He maintained that balancing regional and religious interests remains an important aspect of fostering national cohesion.

Kwankwaso also stated that his political alliance is committed to building an administration that accommodates Nigerians from every part of the country, regardless of religion or ethnicity. He said the coalition’s approach is aimed at strengthening public confidence in government and ensuring that all groups feel adequately represented.

The former Kano State governor added that inclusive governance would be one of the major themes of the opposition’s campaign ahead of the 2027 general election. He expressed confidence that the electorate would support a leadership style centred on unity, equity, and national development.

His comments come as political parties continue to outline their strategies and policy positions in preparation for the next presidential election.
