Khan ‘has an appalling record’, say Tories – as mayor calls for Palestine to be recognised as a state

The UK Conservatives have said Sir Sadiq Khan should “spend less time trying to play on the world” and focus more on “fixing” London.

It follows the mayor calling for Palestine to be recognised as a state “immediately” earlier today.

Khan said that “there can be no two-state solution if there is no viable state left to call Palestine”.

But now the Tories have hit back, accusing the mayor of having “an appalling record of governance in London”.

Priti Patel said: “From presiding over record levels of crime, to businesses abandoning our great capital City, to his failure to get London moving – he continues to let London down.”

The shadow foreign secretary added: “He should spend less time trying to play on the world stage… and focus on fixing his own mess in the capital.”

Nearly 60 Labour MPs signed a letter demanding that Palestine be recognised as a state by the UK government earlier this month.
