Jake and Callum Robinson sentence: Killers given whopping sentences for murdering surfers in Mexico

Jake and Callum Robinson were murdered by three men while camping at a remote surfing location in Baja California.

Three men have been sentenced after being found guilty of murdering Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, and their American friend Carter Rhoad.

Jake, 31, Callum, 32, and Carter disappeared in late April 2024 while camping at a remote surfing location in Baja California, a peninsula in the northwest of Mexico.

Their bodies were discovered days later at the bottom of a well with gunshot wounds, alongside the body of a local farmer who had also been shot.

Three men, Jesus Gerardo, known as El Kekas, Irineo Francisco and Angel Jesus were convicted of aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery and violent vehicle theft more than two years later following a weeks-long trial.

On Friday, local time, the trio each received sentences of 135 years for aggravated homicide, 13 years for vehicle robbery with violence and 10 years and nine months for aggravated robbery.

They will serve a total of 158 years and nine months behind bars.

The brothers’ parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, were in court every day for the trial and pleaded for no leniency in sentencing the trio.

“No outcome can ever undo this tragedy, but we hope today marks an important step towards justice and allows us to continue honouring their lives and the extraordinary young men they were,” Martin said after the conviction.

“They will never be forgotten.”

Debra said she hoped the outcome would offer reassurance to other families and hoped for a “long sentence” so the trio would never be freed to commit another crime.

The parents departed from Mexico and returned to their home in Perth shortly after the conviction.
