Israeli strikes on Lebanon last week saw widespread condemnation and calls for the country to be included in the ceasefire with the US and Iran.

Earlier, the Lebanese Health Ministry said more than 2,000 people have been killed in the country since the war began on 2 March.

But the Israeli government does not want the issue on the agenda for the upcoming talks with Lebanon.

“We will not discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which continues to carry out indiscriminate attacks against Israel and our civilians,” spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian said.

Hezbollah is a militant group, separate from the Lebanese government, though it does have elected politicians.

Analysts say it appears neither Israel nor the Lebanese state can forcibly disarm Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s prime minister said efforts are under way to iron out the remaining disputes between the US and Iran with the two-week ceasefire still in place.
