Israel-Hamas War Update

Welcome back to our live coverage of the conflict.

Yesterday, Israel pulled its negotiating team from Qatar, accusing Hamas of reneging on a deal to free all the women and children it was holding.

Meanwhile, Kamala Harris, the US vice-president, said too many innocent Palestinians had been killed in Gaza and urged Israel to do more to protect civilians.

Her comments came as Israeli warplanes and artillery bombarded the enclave following the collapse of a truce with Hamas on Friday.

Residents feared the barrages set the foundations for an Israeli ground operation in southern Gaza.

Here are the other key events from the last 24 hours:

  •  The UK announced it will conduct surveillance flights over Israel and Gaza as part of hostage rescue efforts;
  • A senior Israeli official said the country will seek a “security envelope” with special zones and arrangements preventing Hamas from being positioned on its border once the war is over;
  • Hamas’s armed wing claimed to have “killed or wounded” Israeli foot soldiers stationed in northwest Gaza;
  • The director-general of the Red Cross warned Gaza is at a “breaking point” as intense fighting resumed
  • The Hamas-led health ministry said at least 200 Palestinians have been killed since the week-long truce ended.
