The families of hostages being held by Hamas have said there is “solid intelligence” that some of their loved ones are in “immediate danger” due to deteriorating health conditions.
In a letter to the Israeli Security Cabinet, representatives of the families demanded the government take urgent action to bring the remaining 138 hostages home.
“We have received solid intelligence that there are hostages whose condition has deteriorated and who are now in immediate danger of life due to untreated injuries or illnesses,” it read.
“The lack of treatment endangers their lives, and apparently, some of the hostages have already paid for it with their lives.”
Some hostages underwent physical or psychological torture and abuse, it added.
As we reported earlier, hospital staff have said 84-year-old Elma Avraham, who was released by Hamas, was in a “fight for her life”.
“They held her in terrible conditions,” her daughter Tali Amano said. “My mother arrived hours before we would have lost her.”
Everyone is crying, everyone is dying’
A mother in Gaza City has told Sky News “everyone is dying” in an area designated as a safe zone for civilians.
Masa’ad Abu Jalhum said lots of people travelled to Mawasi and “it was like the day of reckoning” when she arrived.
“We arrived here and everybody was here. Everyone is crying, everyone is dying,” she said.
Israel has been accused of not doing enough to protect civilians during its operations in Gaza, with the US and UN urging it to do more.
