Dozens of bodies were buried in a mass grave in Rafah, southern Gaza, today.
They had been held by Israeli forces in northern Gaza before being transferred to UN and Gaza medical workers at the Kerem Shalom border crossing between Gaza, Israel, and Egypt.
Medical workers who entered the truck quickly left after opening some of the bodybags, having found the odours unbearable.
“Some of the remains and bodies have decomposed, so we cannot open this container in a neighborhood where people live,” Dr Marwan al-Hams, health emergency committee director in Rafah told The Associated Press (AP), fearing that illnesses could be spread among residents.
Pictures taken by the AP and Reuters showed the bodies being buried.
