Lamine Yamal’s actions, whether on or off the pitch, usually cause quite a stir. But now an action by the Barça winger during the celebration parade for LaLiga last Monday has become a matter of state.

Lamine asked a Barça fan, during a moment of the bus parade celebrating the title win, to throw him the Palestinian flag. The winger waved it and even posted an image of himself carrying out this action on his social media, which had a huge impact, as all his messages always do. He has more than 42 million followers.

‘This conduct drew a forceful response today from Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz. “Lamine Yamal chose to incite against Israel and foster hatred while our soldiers fight the terrorist organization Hamas, which massacred, raped, burned, and murdered Jewish children, women, and elderly people on October 7,” the minister wrote in a message drafted in Spanish and published on his X account.’

“Whoever supports this type of message must ask themselves: do they consider this humanitarian? Is this moral?” wrote Katz, who added that he will not remain silent in the face of what he describes as “incitement against Israel and against the Jewish people”.

The minister also expressed and shared his expectation and desire that Barcelona distance itself from the events and make it unequivocally clear that there is no place “for incitement or support for terrorism”.  Hansi Flick, in fact, commented this past Tuesday, ahead of the match against Alavés, that he had not liked Lamine waving the Palestinian flag and that he had even met with him, although he stated that the international player is of legal age, is 18 years old, and makes his own decisions.
