The Iranian foreign minister has said Israel and the US will never be able to completely wipe out Hamas.
Iran is a backer of Hamas, along with a number of other extremist militant groups in the region – including Lebanon-based Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthis.
“Israel and the United States will never be able to eliminate Hamas,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, describing the group as a “freedom movement”.
He also echoed Hamas’s comments, stating that Israel had no chance of securing the release of some 137 hostages still held by the group in Gaza through military means.
Only diplomacy would work, he said.
