Iran denies arming Houthis in Yemen

‘Iran not providing weapons to Houthis in Yemen’

Iran is not providing weapons to the Houthis in Yemen, Iran’s UN ambassador has told our sister network NBC News.

Amir Saeid Iravani acknowledged that Iran did arm Hamas and other Palestinian militants but said Iran “was not directing them”.

When asked if Iran was arming militants, he said: “Not at all.”

He also said the country did not play a part in the 7 October attack on Israel last year.

“We have not participated in this decision. It was the Palestinian decision and the Palestinian implementation. We have no role in this case,” he said.

Mr Iravani said Iran wanted to see a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas but he noted the country would not take threats from the US.

“We don’t want crisis in this region,” he added.

“I think that the language of threat will not work against Iran.

“The language of cooperation and respect will work against Iran. If you think that Iran has fear from the threats, you are absolutely wrong.”
