Political commentator Imran Wakili has said that the resignation of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dealt a significant setback to both the party and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. According to Wakili, the development has weakened the opposition coalition at a crucial period as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.

He argued that Lawal’s departure has reduced the influence and cohesion of the coalition, making it more difficult for the party to regain lost momentum. Wakili also suggested that rebuilding public confidence after the exit of such a prominent figure would be a major challenge.

Speaking on the issue, Wakili said:

“Atiku, ADC can’t recover from Babachir Lawal’s damage.”

The political commentator further maintained that the former SGF’s exit exposed internal disagreements within the coalition and could have lasting consequences for the party’s political fortunes. He contended that the ADC would now have to work harder to convince Nigerians that it remains united and capable of providing a viable alternative.

Wakili’s remarks come amid ongoing political movements involving key opposition figures as parties continue consultations and coalition-building ahead of the next electoral cycle.
