Omoyele Sowore has thrown down a challenge to President Bola Tinubu over the use of Aso Rock, arguing that if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) can hold meetings and weddings at the Presidential Villa, opposition figures deserve equal access.
Omoyele Sowore, the activist and former presidential candidate, has dared President Bola Tinubu to explain why Aso Rock appears to be open to the APC for political meetings and social events while being off-limits to the opposition.
Sowore made the remark in a post shared on Thursday, questioning the double standard he says has taken hold at the Presidential Villa. According to him, if the APC can use the seat of power for party gatherings and even weddings, then opposition politicians should be granted the same privilege.
“2027: If APC uses Aso Rock for meetings, weddings, we deserve same,” Sowore said, directly challenging Tinubu on the matter.
His comments tap into a long-running complaint among opposition figures that state institutions and public facilities are increasingly being used to serve the interests of the ruling party. Sowore’s dare puts the spotlight back on the blurred line between official government business and partisan activity at the Villa.
The remark also comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition voices pressing the case that the playing field must be level if the contest is to be considered free and fair.
It remains to be seen whether the Presidency will respond to Sowore’s challenge.
