The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has uncovered yet another fraudulent entity posing as a legitimate government agency.
According to a statement released by the commission on Friday, the fake organization had been operating for several months, deceiving members of the public by issuing counterfeit employment letters and collecting illegal fees under the pretense of offering government contracts.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that the operation was uncovered during a sting operation conducted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and parts of Lagos State. The fake agency, which operated under the guise of a “Federal Infrastructure Development Bureau,” had no official recognition or budgetary allocation from the federal government.
ICPC Spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the scheme. She noted that the suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the syndicate has defrauded several job seekers and business owners of millions of naira,” Ogugua stated. “They operated a sophisticated office setup with fake letterheads, stamps, and even a cloned website to lend credibility to their illegal activities.”
The ICPC has urged the public to verify the authenticity of any government agency through the official channels available on the government’s website before making any payments or accepting employment offers.
The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation is concluded, the commission added.
