The department supports approximately 140 faculty, 380 staff, and numerous student employees across 18 divisions and centers. This role serves as the primary coordinator for staff and student employment processes — including recruitment, onboarding, personnel transactions, compensation-related requests, and employee lifecycle activities — working closely with department leadership, hiring managers, School of Medicine HR, and central UNM HR to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing. The position requires ownership of assigned processes from initiation through completion, proactive deadline monitoring, stakeholder communication, and minimal supervision.

Key qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties specified (completed degrees above the minimum education requirement may substitute for experience year for year)
  • Preferred: Experience supporting recruitment, hiring, onboarding, personnel actions, or HR operations; interpreting and applying policies; using HR/applicant tracking/payroll/personnel systems; coordinating multiple recruitments simultaneously; working with Smartsheet, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook; maintaining confidential records; tracking deadlines and compliance; providing exceptional customer service; strong written and verbal communication; healthcare, higher education, academic, or large complex organizational experience; compensation-related process experience
  • Employees in patient care or clinical areas must comply with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement

Terms and benefits: Regular full-time, Non-Exempt, benefits eligible — comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus tuition remission and dependent education programs. Mandatory retirement contributions apply for eligible employees over .25 FTE under the New Mexico Education Retirement Act. Background check required. May be eligible for hybrid remote work (minimum three on-site days per week) after successful completion of the probationary period, subject to departmental needs. For best consideration date: 10/30/2026.

To apply: Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted. A complete application consists of a current resume (including hours worked for each position and three references — former supervisors), cover letter (describing how you meet the preferred qualifications), and references. Visit https://unmjobs.unm.edu to submit an application.
