Hamas ‘could stop this fight immediately’, says UK foreign secretary
After being challenged on what Israel is doing to protect civilians and children in Gaza (see previous post), Lord David Cameron is also asked if he is “aware of any moves by Hamas to protect the children of Gaza” by releasing the Israeli hostages and stopping attacks on Israel.
The foreign secretary replied that the peer made a “very good point”.
He went on: “It’s worth remembering that on the 7 October, 29 children were killed by Hamas and 39 children were taken hostage, and they still remain hostages today.
“And of course, it’s right that in the House we should keep asking what Israel should do, but we should also, at the very same time, say what Hamas should do, which is to lay down their weapons and stop right now.
“They could stop this fight immediately.”
