Houthis in talks over its ‘operations’ in Red Sea after attacks on ships

Yemen’s Houthis have said the group is engaging in Oman-mediated talks with “international parties” over its ongoing “operations” in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.

The Iranian-backed Houthi movement has been attacking vessels it says are affiliated with Israel in response to its attacks on Gaza.

Spokesman Mohamed Abdel-Salam reiterated the Houthis will continue to target Israeli vessels or ships heading to Israel until the “aggression and siege” on Gaza ends.

US and British destroyers today hit suspected attack drones over the Red Sea launched from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen.

Shipping firms AP Moller-Maersk (Denmark) MSC (Switzerland) and CMA CGM (France) have paused all container shipments through Bab al Mandab Strait, located off the coast of Yemen at the southern end of the Red Sea.

The Liberian-flagged MSC Palatium III was attacked yesterday with a drone, according to the Houthis. Another Liberian-flagged vessel, Hapag Lloyd’s al Jasrah, was hit by a missile, the US military said.

Houthi forces boarded the cargo ship Galaxy Leader on 19 November.
