The son of a woman kidnapped by Hamas has described how the belief she is still alive is what gives him the energy to get through each day.
Uri Rawitz’s elderly mother Elma was snatched by militants from her home in the Nahal Oz kibbutz on 7 October.
“It’s a hard time… I’m worried about my mum because she’s old, she needs medicine which I don’t think she’s getting there,” he told Sky News.
“We’re not the only ones in this story. There are more than 240 people and families who are the same,” he added.
Mr Rawitz said he hasn’t received much information since his mother’s kidnapping – but said he’s being supported by the Israeli authorities.
Asked how hopeful he is that he’ll see his mother released at some point, Mr Rawitz said: “I saw my mum, she was alive when she was taken and I believe that she is still alive. That’s what gives me the energy to fight, not to relax… and believe I’m going to see her.”
He said his mother was “always optimistic” and “sees the bright side of life”, adding that he “hopes she has the strength to get through it”.

Blinken to meet Arab leaders in Jordan to hear ceasefire calls
US secretary of state Antony Blinken will meet the Saudi, Qatari, Emirati and Egyptian foreign ministers, as well as Palestinian representatives, in the Jordanian capital of Amman today.
It comes amid Mr Blinken’s latest diplomatic push to ramp up humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza and prevent a further deterioration of the crisis there.
The US diplomat met Benjamin Netanyahu again in Tel Aviv yesterday – though his call for a temporary military pause to allow aid in and foreign nationals out of Gaza appeared to be rejected by the Israeli PM.
Jordan’s foreign ministry said the Arab leaders will stress their stance “calling for an immediate ceasefire, delivering humanitarian aid and ways of ending the dangerous deterioration that threatens the security of the region”.
