Good riddance for Conte as Thomas Tuchel leaves Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte

Chelsea have sacked Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues’ underwhelming start to the 2022/23 Premier League season had questions being asked of the German’s position, and losing their Champions League opener has seen him dismissed.

Dinamo Zagreb beat Chelsea 1-0 on Tuesday night in what-roved to be Tuchel‘s last game in charge. The club’s new owners have taken the decision to sack Tuchel after backing him heavily this past summer.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club,” read Chelsea‘s statement on Tuesday morning.

Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea‘s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

Chelsea‘s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

Tuchel had been backed in the transfer market, with a number of players being brought into Stamford Bridge over the summer.

But Todd Boehly is evidently unimpressed with how things have gone so far this season and has decided to part ways with Tuchel. Losses against Leeds and Southampton proved particularly disappointing.
