Gazans fear ‘world will look the other way’ from crisis during festive period

The people in Gaza fear “the world will look the other way” from the ongoing conflict during the festive period.

Reporting from Jerusalem, Nichole Johnston of Sky News says the latest airstrike in central Gaza was “very heavy” and there are some 130,000 Palestinians still in the area.

“It’s been a heavy few day of fighting in Gaza, especially in the north,” she reports.

“We’ve seen dramatic images come in of whole neighborhoods in the north of the Gaza Strip levelled to the ground.

“It has all happened in the same week that the UN passed a Security Council resolution to increase aid to Gaza but it did not come with any kind of ceasefire or temporary pause.

“For the people in Gaza, they have been saying to me over the last couple of days that one of their fears during this festive period is that the world will look the other way.

“That over the next 10 days while many people in the West celebrate with their families and enjoy the break from work their eyes will be averted from what is going on in Gaza.”

She notes that Israel had said it will “continue its campaign” and will carry out more “targeted warfare”.
