The player is said to be a favorite for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who tried so hard to get him to join Los Blancos under Fabio Capello and also general manager Arrigo Sacchi.

The Roma legend also disclosed why he decided to remain in the Italian capital through out his football career.

In his explanations, the famous footballer who just turned 40, says a combination of friends, family and love for the city were all part of what motivated his decision to stay. He has represented Italy 58 times.

The Roma captain adds that he has never regretted the decision he made for his childhood club, after breaking through the club’s youth system and making his first-team debut in the 1992-93 season.

“I was about to go there in 2003, even if it’s not true that I was in Spain,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia. “But then my heart, my friends and the family helped me reflect on it, and fortunately I am still here to tell the tale.

“And then there were problems with the penultimate contract I signed, I really thought about changing club. I don’t know how I have made it here, maybe it’s because I don’t have any vices, I’m still intact and I still have that desire, passion and determination to go on enjoying myself.”
Totti has represented AS Roma a total 763 times, scoring 306 times for his hometown club. Two of the goals were scored in five games since the start 2016-17 season.

When Francesco Totti retires as a player at the end of this 2016/17 season, the one-club man will become AS Roma’s technical director on a six-year deal.
