Female US marine finds hidden camera in women’s bathroom

The US Navy is probing the case of an apparent camera hidden in the woman’s bathroom on the USS Arlington, NBC News reports.

A female Marine found it “in a head” on the amphibious warfare ship and turned it over in March, officials say, but little else is known—like what the camera had recorded and whether it shot stills or video.

“The Navy/Marine Corps team takes all reports of sexual harassment seriously, and are committed to thoroughly investigating these allegations and providing resources and care to victims of sexual harassment,” says Cdr. Kyle Raines.

The camera was discovered during a Mediterranean Sea operation during the Arlington’s current seven-month deployment in the Middle East and Europe, per Stars and Stripes. The case recalls a 2015 investigation into USS Wyoming sailors who secretly filmed more than 10 women undressing and showering on the ballistic-missile submarine; sailors then viewed the videos on their smartphones and an iPod touch, per the Navy Times.

A 2018 Rand Corp. report found that the Navy was the service with the highest chance of sexual harassment, and the only service with a 15% or higher chance of sexual assault at some installations, per Business Insider.
