Alexis Wilkins, the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel, is suing the left-leaning news network MS NOW, alleging it published false stories about her.
Wilkins is suing the network and reporters Ken Dilanian and Carol Leonnig, arguing they “falsely asserted that Ms. Wilkins demanded, and Director Patel ordered, that federal agents assigned to her security detail — which did not even exist at the time — escort an intoxicated friend home after a ‘night of partying.’”
According to the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Nashville, Tennessee, Wilkins does not drink. She’s seeking $75,000 in damages.
“This false portrayal is highly offensive to Ms. Wilkins, and would be to any reasonable person in her situation. Ms. Wilkins’ professional identity is of a responsible, sober young woman who does not partake in the excess drinking culture and party scene that is typical for musicians,” Wilkins’ lawyers said.
While the story does not directly accuse Wilkins of drinking, her lawyers said, “that is precisely the impression Defendants constructed and conveyed, and reasonable readers of MS NOW would come to that conclusion.”
Two of Wilkins’ lawyers are representing Patel in his lawsuit against The Atlantic over an earlier article that raised concerns about his drinking habits, NBC News reported.
According to the MS NOW article, Patel on multiple occasions ordered the security detail protecting Wilkins to escort one of her allegedly inebriated friends home after a night of partying in Nashville.
According to the report, Wilkins’ security detail is made up of a SWAT team based in Nashville.
Dilanian and Leonnig attributed the information to three people with knowledge of the events. FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson denied the claims at the time.
MS NOW President Rebecca Kutler told NBC News she stands behind the reporting.
