Fabrizio Romano Confirms Arda Guler Has “Agreed” New Real Madrid Deal — Chelsea’s Transfer Hopes Crushed

Chelsea’s hopes of signing Real Madrid sensation Arda Guler have been dealt a fatal blow, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming the 21-year-old has agreed a new long-term contract at the Bernabéu.

The Details

Romano posted on X that Guler has accepted all conditions on a deal that will keep him in Madrid until June 2032 — a six-year extension.

“Arda Güler has agreed to sign new deal at Real Madrid! The agreement is done and set to be announced soon — understand it will be valid until June 2032, six years. Arda already said yes — first call on talks @diarioas. All conditions have been accepted.”

The news comes as a significant blow to Chelsea, who had reportedly been preparing a €100 million offer for the Turkish international, with plans to open talks as early as November and complete a deal before January.

Why Chelsea Wanted Him

Chelsea’s interest wasn’t random. Xabi Alonso — who managed Guler during his time at Real Madrid — had specifically asked the Chelsea hierarchy to launch a move for the youngster over the summer.

But Chelsea weren’t alone in their admiration. Arsenal reportedly reached out to Guler’s representatives earlier this year to gauge his interest in a move to the Emirates, while Liverpool were also said to be admirers of the 21-year-old.

All of them have now been left empty-handed.

Guler by the Numbers

Since joining from Fenerbahce in 2023, Guler has racked up 19 goals and 26 assists in 116 games for Los Blancos, generally operating as an attacking midfielder or winger.

Under new boss Jose Mourinho, he’s played in all four of Madrid’s LaLiga games so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Mourinho’s High Praise

Speaking recently, Mourinho made it clear just how highly he rates the young Turk — comparing his potential trajectory to two of the best midfielders of the modern era.

“I really like Arda Güler. I think something similar to what happened to Modric or Bernardo Silva will happen to him. You start in one position and end your career in another. You can start as a No. 10 and end as a No. 8 or 6.”

That’s the kind of endorsement that makes €100 million bids look like small change.

What It Means

For Real Madrid, it’s a statement of intent. They’ve moved quickly to lock down one of their most promising young talents before the Premier League vultures could circle. The new deal is expected to be announced in the near future.

For Chelsea, it’s back to the drawing board. Alonso’s connection to Guler was supposed to give them an edge. Instead, the player has committed his future to the Spanish capital.

And for everyone else who was watching? The message is clear: some players are simply not for sale.
