Eyewitness: Hillel Yaffe Hospital treating 36 casualties from Binyamina attack

Reports from one of the hospitals in northern Israel where people injured from a drone attack confirm that at least 36 people are receiving treatment after the Binyamina attack.

The Hillel Yaffe hospital – just over five miles away from the site of the attack – is currently dealing with 36 casualties.

Six of those have ‘major’ injuries, two of whom have been evacuated to others hospitals. Ten are described as having ‘medium’ injuries, while the remainder have ‘light’ wounds.

The wounded are being treated across eight hospitals in Israel, which gives some sort of scale to the attack.

It says 61 people have been injured by the attack, with three people in a serious condition, 18 in moderate condition, 31 mildly injured, and nine suffering from anxiety.

A paramedic from the ambulance service who was at the scene described the injuries sustained there as “severe”.

“This was a very difficult scene, we declared it a mass casualty event and treated patients suffering from blast injuries and shrapnel,” said Rafi Sheva.

“The injuries were severe, and we evacuated the injured to hospitals as quickly as possible for further medical treatment.”

‘There was no escape’ – Victims of Binyamina attack recount drone strike

Victims from this evening’s drone attack on Binyamina have been describing the scenes in the immediate aftermath of the strike.

Speaking to the Jerusalem Post, one victim currently being treated at the Rabin Medical Center said the attack came “out of nowhere”.

“We were so many people, I can’t even count how many,” he said.

“It fell on us out of nowhere. There was no way to escape. A lot of people were hurt. I can’t describe in words what happened because it’s tragic.”

Another victim, currently receiving treatment at Hillel Yaffe Hospital, recounted the event.

“We heard a huge explosion, the whole place moved, we quickly realised that it was the fall of a missile or a UAV.

“People started screaming in pain, the place was full of blood. We were afraid of another attack, but it was more important to rescue the wounded — so that’s what we did.”
