The leader of Hamas has been added to the European Union’s terrorist list.
Yahya Sinwar is understood to be the mastermind behind the militant group’s 7 October attacks.
EU headquarters said the move was in “response to the threat posed by Hamas and its brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks in Israel”.
Sinwar is now subject to the “freezing of his funds and other financial assets in EU member states”, it added.
It comes after the bloc froze the funds and other assets in Europe of Mohammed Deif, the commander general of Hamas’s military wing, and of deputy commander Marwan Issa.
Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the EU for about 20 years.
Shell suspends all shipments through Red Sea – report
The major oil company has suspended operations in the Red Sea indefinitely, according to a media report.
The move is due to fears of further escalation in the area, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Yemen’s Houthis have been carrying out attacks on international shipping, saying they are acting in solidarity with Gaza.
Shell took the step to stop all crossings due to concerns a successful attack could trigger a massive spill in the region, as well as present risks to the safety of crews on the ships, the report added.
