England midfielder Eberechi Eze has brushed aside claims surrounding an alleged curse placed on captain Harry Kane by a Ghanaian witch doctor, insisting that the squad is concentrating on football rather than off-field distractions.
The unusual claim gained widespread attention before England’s World Cup meeting with Ghana after a self-described Ghanaian spiritualist said he had placed a hex on Kane to stop the striker from finding the net. England were later held to a goalless draw, prompting further discussion about the bizarre incident.
Reacting to questions about the story, Eze made it clear that neither he nor his teammates were paying attention to such claims, stressing that the team’s focus remains on preparing for matches and delivering positive performances on the pitch.
Speaking on the issue, Eze said:
“We don’t pay attention to things like that.”
He also maintained that the players remain fully focused on their objectives at the tournament and are determined to respond positively in their upcoming fixtures despite the outside noise surrounding the team.
The comments come after Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam publicly claimed responsibility for preventing Kane from scoring against Ghana before later announcing that he had “released” the England captain from the alleged spell. Kane himself has not attributed his missed opportunities to the claims, instead describing them as part of life as a striker.
