Does Biden’s address show strong leadership or failure?

While some Americans will see Joe Biden’s speech (State of the Union address) as a sign of a strong US leadership, others will say it is a sign that the country has failed when it comes to Gaza.

“It is certainly an indication that American pressure to try to persuade their ally to let more humanitarian aid into Gaza hasn’t really worked, at least it hasn’t worked sufficiently enough,”  Alistair Bunkall says.

“We have seen pictures coming out of Gaza of long queues of people waiting for food, fighting for food, fighting for aid, fighting for their lives and those are watched by the White House.

“America is now looking to act and perhaps take matters into its own hands.”

It is interesting that Mr Biden says the US military would lead the aid effort, suggesting that others would be involved.

“It is a step forward for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza but it’s not going to happen overnight – it will take many weeks, at least,” Bunkall says.

“It also comes with all sorts of other questions as to who is going to distribute aid, who will manage security, because Biden’s been clear that they’ll be no US troops on the ground.”
