Dani Alves hails Neymar for scoring on his debut with PSG

Neymar’s scored a goal and set up another to prove his outrageous  €222 million move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain was worth the risks, and Dani Alves admits the club knew he’d be a goldmine.

The 25-year-old proved a subject of heated controversies among football lovers after news confirmed his switch from La Liga to Ligue 1 although he claimed the decision was aimed at improving himself as a footballer.

Neymar made history against Guingamp on Sunday by scoring a goal in his first match as a PSG player. The Brazilian set up Uruguayan footballer Edison Cavani for PSG’s second goal, and got another chance to tap in a goal with barely 8 minutes left.

Brazilian teammate Dani Alves spoke with reporters, saying the club knew what Neymar would bring to the table.

“I believe he [Neymar] proved his worth as the world’s most expensive player,” Alves said. “He showed exactly why PSG owners wanted him badly. They want him to be decisive — and that’s what we need to win matches.

“He’s here to help up achieve good results and he did that very well,” the former Juventus and Barcelona player added.

“We expected too much from him even though it was his first game. Yet, he delivered.

“PSG is now, without doubts, the strongest team in Ligue 1 because of him.”

He added, “A player cannot rely only on his name to make a difference, but also has to work hard and make things happen on the pitch — that’s what makes Neymar different from the crowd. He’s global due to hard work. He deserves all our praise.”

The match against Guingamp ended 3-0 in favor of the champions.

Neymar missed PSG’s first league match against Amiens last week due to his delayed transfer procedures. He was unveiled at Parc des Princes shortly before the match.
