Cristiano Ronaldo wins Goal of the Season Award

With a total of 197,496 votes in favor of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese player has won UEFA’s Goal of the Season ahead of Dimitri Payet who plays for Marseille.

Ronaldo was named winner by visitors to UEFA website who selected their best goal of last season. His overhead kick against Juventus (his current club) during their 2017/18 CL encounter won most votes than others nominated for the award. He scored the goal as a Real Madrid player.

Payet got 35,558 votes for his amazing strike against RB Leipzig in their Europa League quarter-finals encounter.

Eva Navarro (Spain international footballer) got the third prize for her goal against Germany in the U17 European Championship finals. She scored 23,315 votes.

While this is Ronaldo’s first time to win this Goal of the Season award, his rival Lionel Messi grabbed it in 2015 against Bayern Munich and won it again in 2016 against Roma. Mario Mandzukic was named the 2017 winner for his CL goal against Real Madrid.

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Will never forget that moment, specially the reaction of the fans in the stadium. #UEFA Goal of the Season,” Ronaldo tweeted.
