The number of netizens in China has reached 1.01 billion as of June this year, as internet penetration rose to 71.6 percent, according to a report released by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) on Friday.
The latest tally showed a growth of 21.75 million compared to the number of internet users last December.
According to the 48th China Statistical Report on Internet Development, the number of internet users totaled 1.011 billion and the internet penetration rate reached 71.6 percent in the country as of June.
The increasing internet access has contributed to the formation of the largest digital society in the world, the report said.
