In the aftermath of Barcelona’s Spanish league victory, a second to their earlier success in Copa del Rey, Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Lionel Messi to remember the difference between UEFA Champions League and La Liga.

Ronaldo jeered at Messi shortly before La Blaugranas wrapped up their successful league campaign and the Portuguese footballer has since sent a “bitter” message to his Argentine rival who scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday night.

By this achievement, Barcelona has consolidated their status as the 2017/18 Spanish league winners, making them champions in 7 out of last 10 La Liga campaigns.

Speaking to reporters in a post match interview, Messi said: “I’m so excited to win this trophy. Winning this league brings great joy and everyone knows how tough it is to win La Liga…That’s why we have to value it and celebrate it properly with all our people.”

He continued, “Everyone at Barcelona, including our fans around the world, should celebrate this. It is a very special title for all of us because we are yet to lose any matches.

“I admit we faced obstacles during the campaign but we overcame them without knowing the feeling of defeat and that is unbelievable.

“We are better than our rivals. We lost almost no matches in all competitions except one in Copa del Rey and another unfortunate one in against Roma, which remains a shock.”

Barcelona has remained unbeaten in the league this season and Messi is hoping to avoid defeat in their upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday.

According to Don Ballon, Ronaldo wants Messi to understand that he still has an edge at grabbing the Ballon d’Or if Madrid eventually wins the Champions League, where Barcelona lost to Roma at the quarter-finals stage.

Zinedine Zidane’s team is looking forward to the CL finals next month, having secured a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi-final tie last week. The second leg comes up later on Tuesday.

Ronaldo’s message to Messi:  Barcelona’s celebrations should be muted because Los Blancos remain in the Champions League.
