Bonnuci Says Italy Could Have Done More Against Ireland.

Italy had already qualified for Euro 2016 Round of 16 before the match against Republic of Ireland which ended in favor of the Irish but Bonnuci admits his team didn’t show much desire for a win as the opponents did.

Irish winger Robbie Brady scored a late winner to seal the game for his country.

“Our duty is to always give our best,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

“Maybe we could have given something better, but congratulations to Ireland, although, we made a few mistakes.

“Today we played just as we know how to, but their play and the [state of the] pitch did not help us. However, we should not look for excuses, we must just continue on path we have taken before this match.

“From defeats there are always lessons to be learned. Perhaps we had to give something more.”

Italy will face Spain in Paris on Monday for a decisive Round of 16 game.
