Blockade will have ‘widespread consequences’ for the world, Iran’s president says

As calls grow for the US and Iran to get back around the negotiating table, Iran’s president has been speaking about his country’s demands.

Masoud Pezeshkian has told French President Emmanuel Macron in a phone call that “excessive” US demands prevented an agreement during talks at the weekend.

“Iran will continue negotiations only within the framework of international law,” he said, according to Iranian state media.

“Threatening the Strait of Hormuz will have widespread consequences for the world,” he added.

‘Fake news’: Trump hits out at Iran war coverage

Donald Trump has posted on Truth Social again this evening criticising coverage of the Iran war.

He reiterates that Iran has been “totally obliterated” and calls the idea that the country is winning or doing well “fake news”.

UK Deputy PM meets JD Vance in Washington

UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has met US Vice President JD Vance in Washington.

Writing on X, Lammy said: “Great to catch up with my friend JD Vance today in DC following his talks in Pakistan. 

“It is vital that the ceasefire continues and we get shipping flowing freely again through the Straits of Hormuz. 

“We continue to work together towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”

Vance led the US delegation for talks with Iran held in Pakistan over the weekend.
