Barca will go for all the trophies – Gerard Deulofeu

Gerard Deulofeu made Barcelona’s first team selection against Real Betis in the clubs’ first La Liga match for their 2017-18 season.

Gerard, a former Everton, Sevilla and AC Milan player, says he’s hopeful that Ernesto Valverde‘s men will win more trophies in their 2017-18 campaigns, adding that Sunday’s victory against Betis was a dedication to all victims of Barcelona attack.

The terrorist attacks in Spain was nerve-wrecking for all players, a reason why heavily armed security men were seen around Camp Nou during the match.

However, Gerard had a swell time against their visitors, having received a call-back from Valvered this summer and securing a first team action immediately.

The midfielder grabbed two assists to compensate for the trust in his abilities.

Speaking with newsmen after the match, the 23-year-old said: “We wanted to dedicate the victory to the victims of the attacks.

“It has been terrible. We are not afraid but hopefully this will all end.”

Answering a question on Barca’s disappointing Supercopa de Espana loss to arch-rivals Real Madrid, the Spaniard said their first win against Betis serves as a boost to everything achievable.

“What an awesome way to kick-start our campaign. It’s true that we were all saddened after the loss to Madrid, but we have hopes of picking these three points,” said Deulofeu.

“We will go for all the trophies and we can always improve.

“[On the double assists] I am so pleased with the way I played. For me, it’s a great achievement because I had featured in few and was just returning after injury.

“I feel very comfortable in this position and hope to have more minutes with the coach. He [Valverde] is giving me confidence and that’s what I want.

“I want to be important, it’s the club of my life and now I’m fine.”

Gerard started as a Spanish youth international, having represented the country in under-16, under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels. He has played over 80 games for Spain.

His first call-up for an international game was in 2014 although he was neglected for their World Cup campaign in that year.

  • Sergi Roberto scored his first goal for Barcelona.
