Australia deploys army personnel and additional support to Middle East

Australia has deployed army personnel and additional support to the Middle East after echoing appeals for humanitarian pauses in Gaza.

Two C-130J aircraft have been sent to the region as a “precautionary measure” as the war poses the risk of a deteriorating security situation, the Australian Defence Force said.

Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles said three aircraft were now in the region. “All of this is a contingency and the purpose of it is to be supporting Australian populations that are in the Middle East if, in fact, this conflict gets worse,” Mr Marles said.

He did not say where the aircraft were sent other than they were not in Israel.
